Practicing some figure drawing from imagination without any references.

Recently I bought some brush pens for drawing. They are much harder to control than pens. But the stroke variation achieved is both fun and challenging.
I named this post Play Time, because I had a lot of fun playing with this brush pen.
This is the brush pen I used. It is a calligraphy brush pen.

Life has been busy and I am finding it hard to sit down and draw. Sometimes when I sit down, I just stare at the blank paper in front of me and could not start.
When I am having difficulties getting back into drawing, or when I simply do not know what to draw, doodling always helps. Doodling helps to exercise my hand and my imagination.

Some sketches I did while watching a movie last week.
This is a good way to learn some composition. It makes me learn to see how the director depict a scene in the movie. It is a good source of costume references too.
I find it is better to choose a movie that I have watched before to practice my sketching, because I tend to focus more on the movie instead of sketching if it is one that I have never watched before.

I have some empty snack boxes lying around and thought I should recycle them by making something useful out of them. So, I decided to make some bookmarks.
First I cut out the shape I want, and then started drawing on them. After an hour or so, I completed two handmade bookmarks. After completing the artwork, I scanned the bookmarks and did some touch up in Photoshop.
I really like the slight brown and rough texture of the card box.
A good craft project to do on your own or with your loved ones :)

Did some doodles with my pen. Sometimes I just let my mind wander on the paper and enjoy the spontaneity. It is kind of relaxing.....
Doodles are good for exploring ideas and boosting creativity. It is also good for days when one is experiencing artist's block. And you can do this while waiting in a queue, in a boring meeting or when you are talking on a phone.
