Faye Sculpting WIP Part 10

Been lacking updates recently. What have I been doing lately? Well, still working on my figurine, only at a slower pace. At the sanding and finishing stage now, which is pretty boring. Been watching a few animes too, like Strike Witches, Bleach and To Love Ru.

Anyway, let's see some pictures of my WIP. One of the things that I've been working on are Faye's pair of boots. Sculpted them and here's how they look:

After some retouching and sanding, I primed them together with all other parts. I'll only be showing the boots for now because other parts still need more sanding:

Apart from this, I have also tried a bit of casting a few days ago. Just testing the rubber silicone and resin that I bought a few months ago. This is the original in the mold after it cured:

And a comparison between the resin piece (left) with the original clay piece (right). The mold and resin are pretty good at holding the details, I must say:

But upon closer inspection, I found that I have trapped some air bubbles in the resin without realising it. Will need to fill those air bubble holes and sand them later:

That's all for today's update.

Been lacking update on my blog lately. But I'm still working on my sculpture. Only recently I've took less photos. Kinda forgot to take them when I'm working on the figurine. So here are a few more photos I took. This part is about some carvings that I've done.

First, I was doing the crease on the dress. This part is on the area near the chest. This is the initial stage without any crease on it yet. I used pencil to roughly mark the shape and location of the crease:

Then some carving. Not very natural yet:

Did some more clean up and sanding on it. Looks better now. Might do some more sanding later. But I'll leave it as it is now:

And here's how it look like with the face and head on:

All right, now let's start on the right hand. The original hand that I had was fragile and broken by me. So I decided to make another one, this time using putty. Here's the initial shape. Nothing like a hand at this stage:

Carve, carve and carve. And we have some fingers now:

Added more putty, and further carving. And here comes the hand:

This part has been really fun. What does everyone think of the hand? Personally, I like it very much.

Just a short update for today. Added the vertical lace on the dress. Still a rough pattern.I have yet to decide the final pattern on the lace. Thinking of drilling some holes on it to make a flower pattern.

For this part, I've also tried playing with different backgrounds and editing the colour and levels in Photoshop to experiment with different effects.

First is a white background:

And this is a background made from my Adidas shirt, lol.

A close up of the lace:

Sorry for the short update today. More to come in the next few days.

As mentioned before, I will redo the skirt especially the pleat because it didn't look natural enough. This part was a pain to do. Took me like 4 hours to get the right pleat. Even though it's tedious, I must say I've learn a lot from it. Doing folds and pleats is really another challenging part of figure sculpting.

Well, here's how the skirt looked like before. Stiff and doesn't look like fabric, no?

And after about 2 hours of carving, sanding and adding more clays, this is what I got. Not happy with it at all.

And I even managed to break some of the clays (the chip on the skirt).

Another two hours later, finally, I got what I want. Phew! Does it look more fluid and smooth now? And while I was at it, I added the lace/pattern accross the skirt. Still pretty rough at this point. Oh, and I've also done the sleeves a bit.

Well, this part of the progress took longer than other parts. Hope there will be more updates soon.

Ikkitousen Great Guardians

Recently I'm watching Ikkitousen Great Guardians. I haven't really finished watching this series. But thought I'll write something about it here (a discussion, maybe?).

First of all, one character who seems different in Great Guardians is Kanu. As I remembered, she was a cool and hard-to-get lady before. But in Great Guardians, she start being desperate for Ryuubi. And she fantasizes, about herself and Ryuubi.

A new character was also introduced in Great Guardians. Her name is Sonken Chuubou. And she claimed to be Sonsaku's sister. But she is a gentle and obedient girl, totally different from Sonsaku. And it seems that she knows "Sun Tzu Art of War" pertty well because she often says, "Sun Tzu says,....".

In one of the episodes, all the characters went on a trip to the beach. And everyone is enjoying themselves in their bikini:

And they found a map. A map that tells you where the sharks are, and they had to fight the sharks in the end:

So, what does everyone think of this anime? What do you think of the storyline and characters? About Kanu's love towards Ryuubi? And whose bikini is your favourite?

Another update of my sculpting.

This time, I did some sawing on the figure to break them up for easier sculpting. And oh, sawing is actually fun! Lots of dust, but cutting off the parts makes it look more like a garage kit that is waiting to be built :).

Let's look at some photos:

I've started to resculpt the finger with putty, which was broken by me before. The putty is too liquid and it's a tricky job to apply it onto the hand. Used some masking tape for help.

Then, I sawed the head into the front and the back part. The back part will later be joined with the back hair.

Then, here's another fun part to saw. The neck and chest area. I had to saw through the upper arm and the chest and then stick the shoulder back into place. I wanted a clean separation of the flesh from the dress. A bit doubtful with what I was doing but fortunately everything turns out all right. Like this:

After sawing, let's do a test fitting:

Good, it sits nicely in place:

That's all about this update. But before finishing off here, I just happened to find a photo of this sculpture which was taken long ago and thought it will be good to post it here. This was how Faye looks like about half a year ago. It was when I started tweaking her anatomy:

My Manga (Last updated 13 Nov 2008)

Thursday, November 13, 2008
Apart from sculpting, I also love to draw comics. Today, I will take a break from anime figures and post some manga created by me nearly a year ago (at the start of this year, to be exact).

I remember that I created a rough storyline and some characters for this manga. It's been ongoing for some time but I had to stop for some time because of busy life. The manga was then stacked at the bottom of my drawer and I almost forgot about it. And I saw it again today and thought I'll keep on drawing. So here are the first few pages of this manga for everyone to read. This post will also be further updated when more pages are added.

Also, this manga is kinda of a superhero genre. I call it manga, but it is read from left to right, unlike the conventional japanese manga which are read from right to left.

I'm not a professional manga artist but drawing this more as hobby. So, I welcome any comments and critics about my artwork. Enjoy!

Some more updates today. Today's progress is mainly on her skirt. Trimmed a few milimeters off her skirt to make it shorter. Had to carve the pleats at certain places to clear up the mess done when putting together the clay.
So, some photo updates:

A few shots of her in her skirt:

Hmmmm, maybe the skirt will need to be shortened some more. But that's for the next update.

And when I was doing the skirt, an accident happened and I broke a few fingers of her right hand. Need to redo them later. Didn't bake the Sculpey well enough and they break easily. Annoying...... but well, I guess that's part of figure sculpting.

That's all for this part of the update.

Today has been pretty busy but luckily I manage to find some time to post this short update.

I've made the pleats for her skirt yesterday. After I finished adding the pleats, I found that the whole skirt is too long compared to what I intended. That means more work is needed to shorten the skirt.
